சாபத்தால் மாண்டு போனான் பரீக்ஷித் மன்னன்;
சர்ப்பதால் மாண்டு போனான் பரீக்ஷித் மன்னன்;

சர்ப்பங்களின் மீது வஞ்சம் தீர்க்க எண்ணிச்
சர்ப்ப யாகம் செய்தான் மகன் ஜனமேஜயன்.

இழுத்து வீழ்த்தின சர்ப்பங்களை மந்திரங்கள்;
இழுத்து வீழ்த்தின யாக குண்ட அக்கினியில்!

இந்திரனிடம் சென்று சரண் புகுந்தான் தக்ஷகன்;
மந்திரம் இழுத்தது தக்ஷகனுடன் இந்திரனையும்!

முறையிட்டனர் தேவர்கள் மனஸா தேவியிடம்;
“குறை தீர்ப்பான் ஆஸ்திகன்” என்றாள் மனஸா.

இந்திரன் பணிந்து வேண்டினான் உயிர் பிச்சை;
வந்தார் ஆஸ்திகர் யாக சாலைக்கு விரைந்து.

முடித்தார் யாகத்தை; கொடுத்தார் வரங்களை;
மடியாமல் தப்பிவிட்டன மிஞ்சிய சர்ப்பங்கள்!

பூஜித்தனர் தேவர்கள், நாகங்கள் மனஸாவை.
பூஜித்தனர் தேவர்கள், நாகங்கள் ஆஸ்திகரை.

உடுத்த வேண்டும் இரு தூய ஆடைகளை – தேவியை
இருத்த வேண்டும் அழகிய இரத்தின சிம்மாசனத்தில்

அபிஷேகம் செய்யவேண்டும்; அலங்கரிக்க வேண்டும்
அளிக்க வேண்டும் தூபம், தீபம், மலர்கள், சந்தனம்.

உபசாரங்களைச் செய்ய வேண்டும் மிக அன்போடு;
உச்சரிக்க வேண்டும் தேவி மந்திரத்தை பக்தியோடு.

9#48j. ManasA Devi (12)

King Pareekshit died bitten by a serpent due to a curse laid by the son of rushi. King Janamejayan wanted to take revenge on the serpents and hence performed a grand Sarpa YAgam.

The mantras uttered in the yAgam brought down the serpents from wherever they were to the fiery pit of the homa kundam. Takshakan who had bitten King Pareekshit got terrified and took refuge in Indra in Heaven.

The Mantra uttered dragged him along with Indra to the fiery pit. DevAs prayed to ManasA Devi. She promised that her son Astika would save the serpents from total destruction.

Indra prayed to sage AastikA who hurried to the yAgasAlA. Aastika stopped the sarppa yAgA and saved the remaining serpents. The NAgAS, DevAs and Indra praised and worshipped ManasA Devi and Aastika.

A person wishing to worship ManasA Devi must become clean and wear two pieces of clothes. He must give the Devi a gem studded throne to sit on.

He must perform abhishekam and decorates her. He must offer incense, deepam, flowers and sandal paste. He must offer her all the sixteen honours. He must chant the mantra with devotion and real interest.
